It may surprise you to know there are close to 100 different gestures regularly used by Japanese people to communicate with friends, colleagues and the general public. While most of those used by Western countries are considered unusual, the Japanese rely on hand gestures to communicate everything from basic requests to expressing emotion and personal preferences.For example: Crossed arms (だめ), Pointing to yourself (私). 先生の発表 「わたしの国でみんながやっている１０のジェスチャーを紹介します。」 A large part of my country population are descendants of Italian immigrants, who came to the country during the late 1800s and early 1900s. You can see the Italian influences in many aspects of the culture, especially when it comes to how they communicate. Italians are known for speaking with their hands, and this habit has passed onto their descendants.
