Basic Facts — Getting to Know Toyota City
Before you start exploring, here are the numbers that put Toyota City in perspective.
At 918.32 km², Toyota is one of the largest cities in Aichi Prefecture — and yes, it genuinely feels that way. Drive in any direction and you’ll move from dense urban streets to quiet mountain roads surprisingly fast. There’s real countryside here, not just a city skyline.
As of April 2026, the population stands at 413,638 — big enough that you’ll never run out of things to do, small enough that the city never feels overwhelming. After a few months, you’ll start recognising faces at the supermarket and the park. That’s one of the things I love most about living here.
For newcomers, this scale is actually a gift: Toyota City has all the infrastructure of a major urban centre — good hospitals, schools, shopping malls — while keeping the relaxed pace of a regional city. You get the best of both worlds.
